April 2016 – Article in “Care Talk” Magazine
The Home was once again featured in the national press in relation to our participation in Hertfordshire County Council and Herts CCG’s “Complex Care Premium” initiative, (see March 2016 below.)
A staff member’s perspective, of firstly becoming a Care Champion, and then delivering the specialist care training and knowledge that she had learnt and benefitted from by participating in the initiative, was outlined.
The article highlights how we aim to support our staff in training and personal development, which means we can provide premium levels of service and confidently manage the health and wellbeing of their residents to give them a high quality of life.

March 2016 – Article in “The Guardian” newspaper.
Congratulations to everyone at Burleigh House!
A fantastic article has been published about Burleigh House in “The Guardian” newspaper, highlighting our pioneering participation within the Hertfordshire County Council and Herts CCG’s “Complex Care Premium” initiative.
The establishment of 6 Champions within the Home in the areas of: Dementia, Health, Nutrition, Wounds, Falls and Engagement were outlined, which have resulted in increased high levels of care provided to our residents. The article outlines some specific benefits our residents have seen within the home, examples including: a reduction of emergency care needs and increased nutritional intake, to name but a few.
To be nationally recognised for the high standard of care provided by everyone in the Home is a wonderful achievement and a proud moment for us all! Well done to everyone – staff, residents and families – at Burleigh House!

December 2015 – Award Winner!
Congratulations to our Deputy Manager, Precious Phiri, who was named as “Champion of Champion 2015/16” by the Hertfordshire Care Providers Association (HCPA) at their prestigious annual awards.
Precious has worked at Burleigh House for almost a decade and this award is an acknowledgment for the dedication and love she has towards our residents, as well as her commitment, passion and drive to deliver the best possible level of care.
We are extremely proud of her achievements over the years and this award is just reward for her hard work and enthusiasm over the years.
Well done Precious!
November 2015 – “Hertfordshire County Council” Review
A thorough inspection of our services has been completed by Herts. County Council and we are delighted to announce that they were very pleased with their findings.
Having reviewed different aspects such as: dementia care, support, recruitment, staffing and training, we received an overall score of “Excellent,” their highest rating.
This is a reflection of the high standards we try to attain at Burleigh and of the hard work that all of the staff put in.

October 2015 – “Healthwatch Hertfordshire” Review
Healthwatch Hertfordshire is the independent health and social care champion. It is their remit to gather the views and experiences of people accessing care services, to use this information to influence decisions and to provide information and advice to the local community about health and social care services.
The purpose of their visit was specifically to look at an individual’s quality of life in respect of environment, leisure and services, digital inclusion and food and drink, as provided at Burleigh House.
Key points mentioned from their findings included:
A high level of training for staff
Low turnover of staff numbers
Relationships with staff and residents appeared to be compassionate
Their overall conclusion read:
September 2015 – “Woburn Safari” Visit
Our residents had a wonderful time during an excursion to Woburn Safari Park.
A specially adapted coach with wheelchair access was booked and all had a wonderful day!
Our residents enjoyed seeing the numerous animals while the coach spent over 2 hours travelling through the safari park. At lunchtime, everyone tucked into a lovely packed lunch provided by our kitchen staff and then enjoyed a leisurely journey back to Burleigh.
It was a lovely outing and we would like to thank not only our staff, but also to those family members who also kindly volunteered to escort our residents on the trip. Your help certainly made for a great day and one that our residents remember with great fondness.
August 2015 – CQC Inspection
Following a recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection, we have now received the final report and I am delighted to announce that we have once again received a glowing report.
Such inspections are normally held annually and are unannounced. On this occasion, the full inspection took more than 5 hours and included: an analysis of our care plans and policies and procedures, interviews with staff, residents and families, and the collation of feedback from other stakeholders. (Many thanks to those family members who provided feedback to the Inspector on the day, or were subsequently contacted by her.)
We are pleased to say we have received an overall rating of “Good,” with excellent comments highlighted throughout the report from, and about, our residents, relatives, professionals and staff.

July 2015 – Annual Summer BBQ!
Many thanks to everyone who joined us for our Summer BBQ in July.
It was another wonderful event, with many families, new and old, joining us on the day - overall, it was probably a record turn-out, with over 100 people! It is always wonderful to have so many of you join us for this annual event which we know is enjoyed so much by our residents.
We were also especially pleased to have been joined by Cllr. David Levett once again, who regularly comes and supports the Home.
We were very lucky to have a lovely sunny day once again, and everyone had a great time.
Many thanks also to our staff for all of their hard efforts in making the event a success once again.
May 2015 – Impartial Feedback Service (IPS)
A new type of questionnaire, collating the views of the key stakeholders who interact with us at Burleigh House has recently been completed.
The “Impartial Feedback Service” (IPS) questionnaire was created and collated independently of the Home by the Hertfordshire Care Providers Association (HCPA), and aimed to capture honest feedback from residents, relatives, professionals and staff members about the operation of Burleigh House, as well as feeding into the evaluation process for the Complex Care Premium (CCP).
The survey was linked to the 5 key areas of inquiry as also assessment by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), namely: is the Home “Safe,” is the Home “Caring,” is the Home “Effective,” is the Home “Responsive” and is the Home “Well led,” (as also outlined previously.)
I am delighted to say that we scored very highly across all of the 5 areas, with an overall score of 91%!
March 2015 – Complex Care Premium (CCP)
We are extremely proud to have been selected as one of only 15 care homes by Hertfordshire County Council to act as a “Beacon Care Home” within Hertfordshire by participating within their “Complex Care Premium” initiative.
The scheme aims to support the provision of complex care in residential homes by enhancing care standards in care homes which in turn will hopefully result in even better care and resident outcomes.
Training is now underway, and at the end of the scheme we will benefit by having 6 new “Champions” within the Home in the areas of: Dementia, Falls, Wounds, Health, Nutrition and Engagement.
We are determined to use the new skills we will be gaining through the CCP to continue to improve on the high standards of care offered within our Home We have already implemented a few changes within the Home as a result of the new skills and knowledge learnt, e.g. New dementia-specific dining ware and new assessments for new activities now being introduced within the Home, and aim to continue to build on such new learnings.
We are honoured to have been chosen for such an innovative and specialist scheme and would like to thank Hertfordshire County Council for their trust.
Jan 2015 – Infection Control Award!
We am delighted to announce that following a recent audit by Herts County Council, we have been awarded an “Excellent” rating in their newly launched “Infection Prevention and Control Assurance Scheme, (IPC Assurance).”
We are only one of a few homes to be awarded with this highest category of achievement and I am sure you will join me in congratulating all of our Staff members, and our Domestic Staff in particular, for this award which recognises the high standards they are adhering to.
